Gokyo, Cho-La (Pass) & EBC Trek

Gokyo, Cho-La (Pass) & EBC TrekProbably the Khumbu and the Gokyo valleys are the best in the world in terms of viewing the Himalayas, high pristine glacier lakes and the famous Sherpa culture and hospitality. A classic flight on twin otter to Lukla from Kathmandu marks the start to this journey. Upon landing in Lukla the trip begins northwards following the Dudh Koshi valley towards Namche Bazaar, the most famous village in the Khumbu region with its pubs, cafés and bakeries. From here we start ascending towards Gokyo passing through scenic valleys and villages walking beside the moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier, turquoise lakes to reach our lodge in Goyko. We climb Gokyo Ri (5,360m) the next morning and return back to our lodge. The rest of the day is spent exploring the surrounding lakes. Head towards the Cho La Pass (5,420m) the next few days and after crossing the pass which has fantastic views of the surrounding Himalayas we will be entering the Khumbu valley and reaching Lobuche to join the main trail to Everest Base camp. Climb further to reach Gorakshep our last high altitude lodge site above 5,000m. From here we head towards Everest Base Camp following the Khumbu glacier. As we are nearing the Base Camp we will be walking on the moraines of the glacier with views of the Khumbu ice fall towering Lhotse. The next day we climb Kalapathaar (5,545m) for panoramic views of the Himalayas which is another highlight of this trip. We return back to Lukla via the famous and scenic Thyangboche monastery with its fluttering and colorful prayer flags. From Lukla we fly back to Kathmandu with memories of the stunning images of the Himalayas.
