Baruntse Expedition

Trip Overview

This is a truly adventurous expedition to a remote and wild region of the Great Himalayas, with full logistic support. This is a journey that seeks a different route, a fresh perspective, a challenge! Although most of this trip (70%) is great trekking, a major part reaches out to the real Himalayan climbing expeditions. Therefore it is a fantastic introduction to Himalayan climbing.
Enter the lowest valley in the world to begin your journey to the base of Mt. Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world (8,481m). In this expedition we will take you to sub tropics cloud forest jungle, high alpine terrain, orchids forest and rural farm market. We will follow the ridge above the Arun Valley, proposed site for the biggest Hydro Electricity plant in Nepal.
The journey from the sub tropics of Tumlingtar in the far East of Nepal into the isolated and high alpine areas of Sherpani Col, the Baruntse glacier, West Col and Mera Peak. Pass through yak pastures towards the endless ice fields of Makalu Baruntse, get fantastic views of Kanchenjung masiff, Everest, Lhotse, Chamlang as well as the rarely seen Kangshung face of Mt. Everest. Return through the isolated Sherpa Village, then the mail Everest trekking trail to Mera Peak and further down to Lukla for your flight back to Kathmandu.
This trip offers a combination of almost everything that Nepal has to offer: different climate zones, different cultures, great trekking in very remote areas and great alpine climbing in Himalayan style. So come explore the remote, challenging and the unspoiled side of Nepal Himalayas with us.
